White Bones and Red Dirt

White Bones and Red Dirt

Taiban Presbyterian Church, Est. 1908, Taiban, NM

With its steeple long lost and without windows or doors, the inside and outside become one.  It is but a dilapidated shell, ravaged by human neglect, vandalism, the elements and time. Yet there remains something inexplicably serene and beautiful there.

Just as the deeply etched wrinkles on a centenarian’s face tell a story of life lived and experiences gained, these church bones tell a story as well—and it is one of history, of hot dry summers and cold windblown winters, of past parishioners, of worship and of reverence.

It is now a quiet and empty place, but by all not forgotten and by yet others still loved.

This old ramshackle house, neglected and abused by time and the elements, now shimmers in the morning light as shadows like entangled spider webs add a lacy beauty to it’s weathered bones.
